2017 South African Childrens Bookfair - JHB - 15-18 June

South-African-Childrens-Bookfair-2017---log_20170604-162245_1

For those looking to explore the local market for children's literature this event is just for you.

The 2017 South African Children's Bookfair is promising to be a one-stop event for authors, publishers, illustrators and other industry professionals. Exhibitions, workshops and book launches promise to make it well worth the trip into Boksburg.

Unfortunately, exact details on the speaker lineup, exhibitions and workshops seems to be a bit sparse at  the moment. I have asked the event organizer for a bit more detail and will update this post once I have it. This article by the guest speaker at the event James Murua seems to have the most comprehensive info on the event.

Calls for Submissions: South African Authors, This Is Your Opportunity to Be Recognised

Calls-for-Submissions-South-African-Authors

South Africans often believe that they are excluded from international writing competitions, which tends to leave them feeling demotivated and uninspired. Perhaps it’s a lack of research skills, or perhaps it’s easier to believe that than to take the plunge. Fear of success is almost as prevalent as fear of failure.

If you believe your writing is worthy of being read and celebrated, you should go out and do what you can with what you have. Every day, authors slave away in front of their keyboards (or even the arbitrary pencil and paper!) weaving together words to create literary works that may never be read. But fear of failure does not stop them from chasing that dream. And, judging by the countless published books, successful television and stage productions, magazines, newspapers and every other form of media, thousands (if not millions!) of authors succeed. It all starts with committing thoughts to words.

Ultimately, it's a question of Why do you write?

Authors gone wild – A celebration of self-publishing at the MYeBook fourth birthday bash

Authors gone wild – A celebration of self-publishing at the MYeBook fourth birthday bash

What!? Our self-publishing platform turned four? Hell yeah, and it was done in style.

Friday 14th October 2016 will go down in many calendars as a night of celebration and literary debauchery. Wine was uncorked, authors conversed and new friends compared book-sizes. A far cry from the late night business plan birthed from the cavernous-cranium of MYeBook founder Dave Henderson. MYeBook, a literary-startup tottered out of relative obscurity and into the bright lights of the Skoobs bookstore nestled within Monte Casino.

ROSACon2016 – The place to be for those who write between the sheets

I wont lie, this event has me salivating, for all the right reasons.

Who are ROSA?

ROSA is an apt acronym for a such a kind and caring group of writers. The Romance Writers of South Africa have groups in every major city in South Africa and provide much needed support and development to our countries romance writers.

Jozi Book Fair 2016 @ Wits

Jozi Book Fair 2016 @ Wits

Hey all, a quick mention of the upcoming Jozi Book Fair due for early (1-4th) September 2016.

I attended the previous two events and thoroughly enjoyed them both. There are a wide range of events of the book fair from book launches, workshops, poetry readings, round-table discussions and then film and theatre exhibitions. For those worried mommies there are also special events arranged just for the kiddies.
