About the author - Thembinkosi Mabaso
Thembinkosi Mabaso, also known as Themba, is a South African Children’s books author and illustrator. He is born and bred in the province of KwaZulu-Natal where he studied a Bachelor of Art in Fine Arts at the then, University of Natal. He started his writing career in 1994 and has since produced children’s books, youth novels, poetry and educational literature. Some of the books are published in IsiZulu.
Mabaso is married and a father of two children. He is an avid reader and collector of books. He enjoys both performance and visual art.
Mabaso has published more than ten books, most of which are children’s books.
Gimba the character was invented by the Mabaso when he was still a student, relying on mini-bus taxis for transport. The character has grown in popularity to such an extent that it is now a series.

Gimba had not gone very far when all of a sudden, "Kablamm!" a noise from one of his wheels. "Oh, dear!" he groaned, "My day is ruined!"
Gimba the red mini-bus taxi is full of adventure. His is always on the road with some of his friends. For Gimba life is about trying out new things and taking short cuts. Gimba never thinks ahead and is always caught up in the excitement of the moment. He leaves home without his life saving spare wheel!
